Why people choose retractable over fixed
A fixed screen is there all year whether you want it or not. A retractable one spends most of its life rolled up inside a housing, which means nothing interrupts the view in winter, there is no panel to unclip and store in the garage, and the mesh itself lasts longer because it is protected when not in use.
Motorized screens for big openings
Above a certain width, pulling a screen by hand stops being practical. Motorized Rainier screens drop at the touch of a button and use the SRS™ side retention system, the strongest available, which holds the mesh steady enough that the screen can be left down in wind rather than retracted. Exterior shading of this kind has been shown to cut cooling costs by up to 60 percent, because it stops the heat before it reaches the glass.
